What we look at...

Each academic year the gifted screening process begins with 3rd graders.  The evaluation series is completed in the 4th grade as 3rd grade achievement scores are used as a part of identification for giftedness.  A team made up or your child's teacher, school psychologist, and special educator reviews achievement test scores and a checklist of exhibited gifted characteristics.  Those students with high scores in academic achievement (generally above 90th percentile in total scores), creativity/characteristics of gifted are selected for a comprehensive evaluation to determine cognitive skills level.  Students who meet Tennessee state criteria for giftedness and have educational needs which cannot be met through the general educational programming alone will be eligible for Special Education Gifted Services.  Referrals may be made by any individual involved in a student's educational program.
